Active Citizenship and Tenant and Service User Participation

In September 2009, our new Tenant and Service User Participation Officer, Sue Tait, joined ARK. This post is full-time and permanent and has been created to reflect ARK’s dedication to operating in a person-centred way at all levels of the organisation, and to assist tenants and service users in pursuing an active role in the work that we do, and in their community.

The new Tenant and Service User Participation Officer will take forward the good work which has previously been done by our promoting Active Citizenship project, by other members of staff and by service users in this area. The Tenant and Service User Participation Officer is here to:

  • Assist those who receive housing, support and care services to build their confidence and support them in speaking up about their service,
  • Enable tenants and service users to have a voice in what ARK is doing,
  • Enable tenants and service users to speak up in other forums and influence what affects them,
  • Effect change either in service delivery or their environment,
  • Ensure that all recipients of ARK services are aware of the Association’s complaints policy and procedure,
  • Organise meetings, conferences and other groups for people to come together to discuss issues and ideas.

Sue says:“ARK has over the past several years been working to help people speak up and have much more control in all aspects of their lives.

I will be following on from, and working to build on all the work that has gone before to continue to support people to Speak Up”.

‘Nothing about me without me.’

If there is any issue, either in relation to the service you receive from ARK, or to any other matter, which you would like support with, please contact me, and I will try to help.”
